This information applies to CX and C Series Robots.
The markers can be Primary and Secondary.
For CX Robot - the first paired Marker you turn on acts as Primary and will have a white LED light.
For C Series Robot - you will need to pair and assign a Primary Marker role.
You can read about the differences between them and their functions below in this article or follow the link here.

☝️The Primary Marker has three functions within the system:
- Tracking (via infrared)
- Audio Capture (built-in microphone)
- Control of the App/Device (buttons)
We have a short demonstration video of how to use the Primary Marker below or if you would like to listen to this article instead, check out our podcast: Swivl Tips Podcast on Marker Features.
The Secondary Markers traditionally serve as additional sources of audio collection and pressing buttons on these Markers will not interfere with the recording.
MARKER BUTTONS - THEIR FUNCTIONS
Center Button: The Center Button can be set to perform a couple of actions within the Swivl Capture app in the Settings menu. By default, the center button is used to pause or un-pause tracking.
Pause Tracking: Pressing the Center Button will pause tracking, meaning the Swivl Robot will no longer follow you until you enable tracking again. This is a useful feature if you need the Swivl Robot to remain still while adjusting settings on your Swivl Capture app on your device. Note that pausing tracking will not pause a recording if one has already started. The recording will continue, but the Robot will remain still. You will need to press the center button again to resume tracking.
Directional Arrows: The Right and Left arrow buttons can do a couple of things:
- during Live Listening if you are using multiple Secondary Markers, you can listen to specific student groups live or your coach. Plug the ear buds in the Primary marker (you'll need just the right ear bud) and press the right or left arrow on the primary marker to be able to hear the person with a secondary marker.
-they can be used for manual tracking: press and hold the directional arrow you need for a few seconds and Swivl starts moving in the direction you choose. You can press the Center button to stop tracking at any point and thus fixing the camera in a specific position. Press the Center button again to resume tracking or adjust Robot positioning.
Up and Down arrows can be used for:
- manual tracking: press and hold the directional arrow you need for a few seconds and Swivl starts moving in the direction you choose. You can press the Center button to stop tracking at any point and thus fixing the camera in a specific position. Press the Center button again to resume tracking or adjust Robot positioning.
- leaving a time-stamped Bookmark that indicates when important moments are happening in the classroom.
Record Button: Tapping the red button on the side of the Marker will initiate recording within the Swivl Capture app. Tapping it again will stop the recording with default settings. If you end the recording you will have to start another one by tapping the record button. Swivl is recording when the red light on the Primary Marker remains lit.
Note that you can set your Primary Marker record button to start and pause recording - see more details here: Pause/Resume Your Video.
Power button (CX): CX Markers have different color lights when turned on (the Primary Marker always has the white light). However, when they are on for a certain time, the LED light goes off to save power. To see the color lights again, click once on the Marker Power button.
Maximize Marker Sensitivity
In order to maximize marker Sensitivity please do the following:
1. Connect your mobile device to the Swivl Robot.
2. Turn on the robot and the marker, open the Swivl Capture app (Robot Tab).
3. Tap on the marker to adjust the volume.
Before trying to lower the volume on your secondary markers make sure to un-toggle "Maximize Marker Sensitivity".
Please note that Maximize marker sensitivity feature will be turned off by default.
For live-streaming, you can maximize all Secondary Markers sensitivity simultaneously in the Swivl Capture app Settings. On iOS app this feature is enabled only for livestreaming sessions.
