Please find below how to:
- pair a Secondary Marker to the robot;
- make a marker Primary;
- change the color of the Secondary Markers;
- perform Marker Tracking Handoff;

How to Pair Secondary Markers:
The process of pairing the markers is the same for both CX and C Series robots.
If you are not sure whether the marker is paired with the robot you are using or not, please pay attention to the lights at the side of the marker: if you see one solid green light and there is no other light, it means that the marker is paired and that it is a secondary marker. You can read more about the differences between the Primary and Secondary one here.
If you see one solid green light and one blinking red, it means that the markers needs pairing, so please follow the instructions below:
1. Connect your mobile device to the Swivl Robot.
2. Turn the robot and the markers on, open the Swivl Capture app (Robot Tab).
3. Put the marker you want to pair into the robot's dock.
4. Blinking pair LED on the robot base and notification on the screen of the mobile device indicate that pairing is in progress.
5. Please wait until you see the 'Pairing complete' notification.
6. Take the marker out of the dock and turn it on. Please make sure you have the Primary Marker on, otherwise, the first marker you turn on - will become the Primary (this applies for CX only). After successful pairing, you will see the marker appear in Robot Tab next to the Primary. Next, please repeat the same procedure with the rest of your markers.
7. Now you can select the color for the particular Marker, and the LED light on the CX Marker turns the same color - see a different section of this article

How to Make a Marker Primary
The differences how to set a Marker as Primary in CX and C-Series Robots:If you have a CX Robot (you can see CX letters on it), there are two ways to select a Primary Marker:
1. The first marker you turn on will always be the Primary Marker and it always has a white LED light.
2. You can also manually make another Marker as Primary following the steps below:-connect the robot to a compatible mobile device;
- switch on the robot and the marker;
- go to Robot tab->Marker Setup-> select the marker you'd like to set as Primary and click on it->Make Primary.
If you have a C-Series Robot, you need to set the Primary Marker manually:-connect the robot to a compatible mobile device;
- switch on the robot and the marker;
- go to Robot tab->Marker Setup-> select the marker you'd like to set as Primary and click on it->Make Primary.
You can read about the differences in functions between the Primary and Secondary Markers here. -
1. Connect your mobile device to the Swivl Robot.
2. In the CX Robot, the first marker turned on is the assigned Primary marker (typically, this marker is kept in the dock). Its LED will always be white and it always has two green lights next to the Power and the Record buttons. The app will show the Primary Marker as black.
In the C-Series Robot, the Primary Marker has two green lights and is usually black without any stickers.3. Typically all Markers are already paired to the base in the kit in which they were shipped without any color assigned.
In CX Robot, when turned on after the Primary Marker, the user will not be asked to set a color - colors are assigned dynamically in the following sequence:- Red
- Blue
- Green
- Purple
- Orange
In C-Series, when you turn on a Secondary Marker for the first time, you will be prompted to set a color for it. Do not forget to apply a sticker with a corresponding color to the marker.4. The colors of the Secondary Markers can be changed manually in the Swivl Capture app - Robot tab.
5. In the CX Robot, after the Markers are ON for some time, their colored LED lights turn off automatically to save power. To see the color of the marker, click on its Power button once. To see the colors of all your Secondary Markers, click on the Power button on the Primary Marker.

*The feature works in both, recording and live streaming modes, however, it is not available if speakers are connected to the Swivl Robot (e.g. Standalone live streaming setup of classroom amplification for the Primary Marker)
By default, either the Swivl C Series Robot or Swivl CX will track the Primary Marker, which is most often worn or held by the teacher. In certain instances, however, the teacher may want to pass off tracking to a student or group that is presenting, in order to focus the recording on their work. The Primary Marker can be used to hand off tracking to one of these Secondary Markers, and if multiple student groups are presenting, Secondary Markers can receive tracking one after the other.
Handing off tracking can also be helpful in co-teaching situations, where whole group instruction may be led by more than one teacher, or where the focus of observation is on both teachers and you need to highlight them at different times.Marker Handoff Instructions:
1. On the Primary Marker, press the up button on the directional pad. The record LED will blink to indicate that tracking is being offered to the Secondary Markers.
2. For the next 10 seconds, a student or co-teacher with a Secondary Marker has the option to accept tracking by pressing the Center Button on the Marker.
3. When the Center Button has been pressed to accept tracking, the record LED on the Secondary Marker will turn green to indicate that it is now being tracked by the base. If no Secondary Marker accepts tracking within 10 seconds, tracking defaults back to the Primary Marker.
4. Once tracking is accepted by a Secondary Marker, the teacher can instruct a different student or co-teacher to take over tracking by pressing the Center Button on their Secondary Marker.
5. At any moment, the teacher holding the Primary Marker can take backtracking by pressing the Down Button on the directional pad. The Swivl will rotate back to face the original location of the Primary Marker and will resume tracking the teacher.
6. You can stop tracking only from the Primary Marker, not the Secondary Marker. However manual tracking works from the Secondary Marker if using the Marker Tracking Handoff feature.
Marker Handoff Positioning
- Marker Location Recall: Once tracking has been handed off to multiple Markers, the base will remember the last physical position of the Markers. When a Marker re-accepts tracking, the Swivl base will first turn to face the original position of that Marker, and then adjust its position based on its actual location.
- Swivl Repositioning: If the Swivl Base is pointing in the wrong direction once tracking has resumed for a Marker, the person who has accepted tracking can use the Right or Left Buttons on the directional pad to manually rotate the Swivl Robot it regains line-of-sight connection with the Marker it should be tracking. Once the Swivl is oriented properly, the Right or Left Button can be released to resume normal tracking.
- Marker battery saver mode: This feature extends the battery life of the markers. It can be toggled on or off for livestreaming, recording, or both.
-
Adjust Marker Sensitivity: 1. Connect your mobile device to the Swivl Robot.
2. Turn on the robot and the marker, open the Swivl Capture app (Robot Tab).
3. Tap on the marker to adjust the volume.
Before trying to lower the volume on your secondary markers make sure to un-toggle "Maximize Marker Sensitivity". Please note that unless you have turned it on in the past, Maximize marker sensitivity feature will be turned off by default.
4. Adjust the volume on each Marker.For live-streaming, you can maximize all Secondary Markers sensitivity simultaneously in the Swivl Capture app Settings. On iOS app this feature is enabled only for livestreaming sessions.
