There are two ways to make observational recordings which serve two different purposes:
a) You can either record your classroom activity as part of your personal reflection that will be saved in your Personal space.
b) A recording can be made as a part of a pre-reflection Workspace Group activity set up by the Group owner for a group learning and assessment. In this case, a recording, as well as other workspace steps you choose, will show up along with the reflection analytics in the respective Group.
In this article you will discover a step-by-step guide for each type of observational recordings, as well as general information regarding classroom setup, tracking, video, and audio capabilities of Mirror.
Observational Recordings with Mirror
Personal Observational Recording
1. Turn the Mirror on and log in to your Mirror account (see more details on how to set up Mirror for the first time here: Step-by-Step Guide to Mirror).
2. Tap on the arrow at the top middle part of your screen and select Personal workspace.
3. Select "Start".
4. Now, you will be redirected to the Workspace activities page. To start an observational recording, select "Record".
5. You will see the observational recording started (see a visual demonstration of Mirror tracking here: Video demonstration of tracking). You can finish the recording by tapping on the "Stop" button.
6. Once you finish the observational recording, Mirror will ask you a question to start the reflection.
7. Then, you will be prompted to choose focus for your Reflection. Learn more about it in this article: Focus: What kind of reflection do you want today?. Once it is done, select "Next".
7. Then, you will be prompted to answer the AI-generated questions based on the focus you chose.
8. An AI-generated feedback will be given once you finish reflecting. You can perform a Recharge activity, customize the reflection, or click "Done" to finish the reflection.
9. You will then see your reflection along with your recording on your Personal Dashboard. You can watch the recording by selecting "View evidence" next to it.

Observational Recording as Part of the Workspace Activity in Group
1. To create a workspace activity which includes observational recording for one of your groups, select the group that you wish to assign this activity to by selecting the arrow at the top of the Mirror screen.
2. Here you can either choose an existing Group or, if you want to create a new Group, select "+ Group".
3. You will then be prompted to create a group - you can do so by following the steps described here: How Can I Create a Group. Once ready, select "Done".
4. You will then be redirected to this Group's Dashboard. To set up a reflection for this Group, select "Setup".
5. You will then be redirected to Library, where you can either select the reflection or set it up your self by clicking "Custom".
6. Learn how to set up the reflection in this article. Once done, press assign.
7. You will then be prompted to select participants for this reflection. Once you enter the names of all of the participants, you may give the Mirror to the first participant and they can start reflecting by pressing "Start" button.
8. Once the participant starts the reflection, they will be presented with all the steps that you preselected, including the observational recording step.
9. Then, the participant will be prompted to reflect.
10. Once the participant presses done, their reflection along with observational recording will be visible on the Group Dashboard.
