M2 Reflections

📖 Setting up the Group Reflection

Available for M2 & MirrorTalk users

Once you've created a Group (see how to create a Group here) or chosen an existing Group to work with, you can proceed to assign a reflection either on M2 web or on M2 robot.

Customize the Reflection

M2 web offers multiple customization options to help you quickly and easily create reflections that are meaningful for your learners. You can customize and assign a reflection only through M2 web.

To get started:

  1. Select the group that will complete the reflection.
  2. Click Assign a Reflection to create and customize your reflection.

Each new reflection in M2 includes three main elements to consider. The first is the objective — what you want learners to achieve through the reflection.

1. Define the Objective

Recording or writing an objective allows M2 to automatically align reflection prompts with your specific goal.

To record an objective:

  • Click Record and state your class objective out loud.
    • This could be an “I can” statement or any phrase that helps learners understand what they should take away from the activity.
  • The recorded objective will play during the reflection assignment, creating a personalized experience for learners.

To write an objective instead:

  • Click Write and enter your objective manually.

Once your objective is captured, you’ll notice that the prompts automatically adjust to match your goal — saving you time and ensuring relevance.

To customize your reflection, you can adjust the following settings — let’s take a closer look:

Choose Format: Personalised, Prescribed, or Manual?

When you're customizing your reflections, selecting the right format is crucial to ensure the process aligns with your goals and preferences. You have three options: Personalized, Prescribed, or Manual. Each format provides different prompts and questions, guiding your reflection in unique ways. We'll break down the differences between these three formats, helping you decide which one is the best fit for your needs.

Check out each of the Format options by selecting the buttons below.

Personalized Questions
Applies to Group reflections on M2/web/mobile app
Personal reflection flow on web/mobile app
and Personal reflection on M2 device after going through M2 flow

The Personalized format adapts questions according to the first response (and objective if added). By basing subsequent questions on the first Recall question we ask students, we’re ensuring that the unique reflection experience for each student closely with a teacher’s entered objectives. This personalized approach creates a more tailored and effective reflection process.

Prescribed Questions
Applies only to Group reflections on M2/web/mobile app

The Prescribed format offers a structured approach to reflection by automatically generating all the necessary questions for you. While the questions are automatically generated, you still have the flexibility to edit existing prompts or add new ones if you want to tailor the reflection to better suit your specific needs.

The Manual format allows you to write down the prompts yourself.

Choose Focus: Depth, One Why, or Creative?

You can set up the focus for the reflection by choosing one of these options: Depth, One Why, or Creative. The automatically generated prompts will differ depending on the focus you choose. You will find the detailed description of each focus type below.

Depth

What?

Push students through the first three levels of Webb’s Depth of Knowledge framework around a stated objective; recall, apply knowledge, and strategic thinking.

Why?

See how deep learners can go when it comes to explaining important concepts. This is all about building complex thinking skills.

One Why

What?

Inspired by Simon Sinek's "Start With Why," this focus asks participants to examine their motivations.

Why?

Aligning their work with their intended goals and uncover hidden assumptions.

Creative

What?

Just state something you’d like to create and get guided through a structured design thinking process to get the creative juices flowing.

Why?

Sometimes we need a jolt of inspiration. This focus helps to examine a design problem from numerous angles, so you walk away ready to start building.

Ask a next step question: Challenge learners to talk about their next steps whenever you feel it's appropriate.

Assign and Share Reflections to Groups

Assign Reflections to Groups

Once you finish setting up the reflection, you can either click Assign or Save to Library. If you click Assign, you will have an Assignment link created, which you will be able to share with the participants.

When a teacher shares an Assignment link with a student, the student will be prompted to join M2 in one of the 3 ways, depending on which group type the teacher chose. Each type is described in this article: Student Registration Options. You can also learn more about each of the group access types here: Group Participant Access Types for Students. As for the Adult group types, see details in this article: Adult Group Registration Options.

You can assign reflections that require your students to log in only on M2 web or M2 mobile app. Once they log in, they are transferred to do a reflection that you assigned in a group that you created.

Try Assignment

Once the link is generated, you can try going through your own assignment by selecting the Try Assignment button.

Locate the Assignment Link Anytime

If you need to retrieve the link to the assigned Reflection, you can find it by navigating to the Group you assigned it to and clicking Copy assignment link.

Important

  • You can assign only one link at a time. If you assign a new link, the previous one will become inactive, so please ensure that all the participants finish the previous reflection before you assign a new one.
  • If you assigned a reflection to a student with an account already registered, and you would like them to reflect on the M2 device, they would first need to follow that link on the computer/another device. Please make sure to select either Login - Full dashboard or Login - Limited dashboard group access type or Login - Opt to share for adults. Once the participant follows this link on the web and logs into their account, this group will be accessible from their account. Then, they will be able to log in to their account on the M2 device and access this group from there.

Organize All of Your Reflections with Labels

Now, you can add a label so that you can easily find a reflection when you need to.

While in the reflection customize popup, just click + Add label at the top right, enter your new label name, and then click the checkmark next to it. When you access your Library, just select your new label to see its associated reflections.
