M2

M2 Subscription Types

Overview

The M2 app offers two subscription types: Free and M2 (paid). This article explains what each includes and what happens when a user's subscription status changes.

Free Subscription

The Free plan gives individual users access to the M2 app with the following capabilities:

  • General group: This is a default workspace. No setup is required, and participants don't need accounts to complete reflections.
  • Unlimited activities: No limit on the number of activities in the General group.
  • Full AI features: This includes Live Tips, My Feedback, and Chat with M2, Ask M2, Guides, and Reflections.

Free users work in the General group only and cannot create new groups.

M2 Subscription (Paid)

The M2 subscription is a team-based plan. It unlocks the ability to create and organize your work across multiple groups:

  • Create Class groups: set up a named group for each class or section you teach (for example, "Period 3 Algebra").
  • Assign Reflections to specific students: in Class groups, participants have accounts, so you can assign Reflections to individual students.
  • Organize feedback by class: keep teaching activities, feedback, and transcripts grouped by the class they belong to.

Paid seats are managed at the team level through your Swivl account.

Free Users Within a Team

A Free user who is part of a team is still a Free user and keeps the same limitations:

  • They work in the General group only.
  • They cannot create new groups.

Being part of a team does not, on its own, change a user's permissions. To create groups and use the full paid experience, a user needs a paid M2 seat.

What Happens When a User Is Downgraded

If a paid user is downgraded to Free (for example, when a seat is removed):

  • Any groups they created become read-only: they can still view past activities, feedback, and transcripts, but cannot add new activities or use AI features within those groups.
  • They can continue working in the General group.
