The Rubric Builder allows Team administrators to customize the criteria used in M2’s feedback during and after teacher activities.
With this tool, teams can add their own scoring criteria to complement the default Engagement, Pacing, and Questioning rubrics used by M2.
By controlling which criteria appear in teacher-facing M2 feedback, you can ensure your team’s rubric aligns with district priorities or preferred instructional frameworks.
Default Rubrics
M2 includes three built-in rubric criteria:
Engagement – Always required and cannot be disabled
Questioning – Can be archived but not deleted
- Pacing – Can be archived but not deleted
These defaults provide consistency across all teams. Administrators may add additional rubric criteria, but cannot remove or edit these.
Custom Rubric Creation
Administrators can add additional criteria to tailor M2 feedback to your priorities.
When creating custom criteria, keep the overall rubric concise. We recommend 3–5 total criteria, including the defaults, to keep scoring clear and manageable.
All rubric criteria use a 0–4 scoring scale.
Required Fields for Each Custom Criterion
Each custom criteria must include the following:
- Title: A short, clear name for the criterion.
- Description: A 1-2 sentence explanation of what is being evaluated.
- Scoring Descriptors (1–4): Each level must include a complete description of what performance at that level looks like.
- Minimum Character Requirements: Input fields must meet the minimum text length before they can be saved.
Managing Rubrics
Editing Rubrics
- Custom rubrics can be edited at any time.
- Each field includes a built-in character counter to help ensure completeness.
Enabling or Disabling a Criterion
- You can toggle custom criteria on or off.
- When disabling criteria, a confirmation message will appear before the change is applied.
Archiving and Restoring
- The default Pacing and Questioning rubrics, and any custom rubrics can be archived.
- Archived rubrics can be restored at any time.
Deleting Custom Rubrics
- Only custom rubrics can be deleted permanently.
- Default rubrics cannot be deleted.
- Deleting a rubric is permanent and cannot be undone.
How Rubric Changes Affect M2 Feedback
- Changes apply only to future activities. Updating, disabling, or deleting criteria does not modify any past scores or feedback.
- Make sure you are sure about any changes you make. Once a rubric is edited or removed, the previous version cannot be recovered.
- Confirmation prompts appear for permanent changes, such as “Are you sure? Changes cannot be undone.”
