Guided Mode Introduction
Guided Mode allows students to use the M2 independently while ensuring their activity is recorded through transcription for the teacher. At the same time, access to teacher-only features is restricted. This mode is designed to create student activities with minimal actions required from the teacher.
How to access Guided Mode
Log in to your MirrorTalk account on the M2.
Start your session as usual by selecting New at the bottom of the screen.
Then, select Guide at the bottom of your screen.
You will see three modes to choose from.
M2 Guided Mode offers three learning modes—Q&A Mode, Practice Mode, and Project Mode—each designed to support different types of classroom activities.
Q&A Mode is best for quick exchanges, where students can ask questions or make statements, and teachers receive a transcription and highlights of the discussion.
Practice Mode guides students through step-by-step problem solving (such as math or science tasks) with multiple directions and opportunities to show their work.
Project Mode is designed for longer, more complex projects. Students work through several directions and then give one final recorded presentation at the end.
Each mode balances independence for the student with meaningful feedback for the teacher, while keeping teacher-only features restricted. To learn more, explore each mode below.
Q&A Mode
In this mode, the student asks M2 a question without access to other tools. A transcription of the discussion is collected for the teacher, including highlights of what took place during the lesson.
Once you select Q&A Mode, M2 will prompt you to provide an objective for the lesson. You can either press and hold the Hold to speak button while stating your objective, or tap the button once to let the AI generate an objective based on information collected during the M2 Teacher session.
Then, AI will generate the activity. If you’re not satisfied with the result, you can regenerate it in two ways: press and hold the Hold to speak button to provide your own objective, or tap the button once to have the AI automatically create a new objective.
If you like the generated activity, tap launch and the student activity will start. A short summary of the activity will appear first.
Then, the student will be redirected to the chat, where they can either ask a question or make a statement.
To exit the activity, tap the arrow in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. You can also leave by pressing the back arrow on the remote, scanning the QR code, or using the PIN code sent by email.
At the end of the activity, the teacher will see the activity history, including the start and end times and the Activity Summary. Any differentiated statements or Q&A exchanges that occurred during the activity will also be displayed. After the session, the teacher will receive a highlight of the Q&A activities. Note that no Student Card is generated in Q&A Mode.
Practice Mode
Practice Mode is designed for working through sequential problems (math, physics, etc.) and contains several steps.
When you select Practice Mode, M2 will prompt you to provide a lesson objective. You can either press and hold the Hold to speak button while stating your objective, or tap the button once to let the AI generate an objective based on information collected during the M2 Teacher session.
The AI will then generate the activity. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can regenerate it in two ways: press and hold the Hold to speak button to provide your own objective, or tap the button once to have the AI automatically create a new one.
If you’re satisfied with the generated activity, tap Launch to begin. In Practice Mode, the activity will include multiple directions, since it is specifically designed for sequential problems. A short summary of the activity, along with the first direction, will appear before the student starts.
When the direction playback ends, the student will move to the Do stage, where they can complete the task described in the directions. During this stage, they can use the following tools: drawing on a whiteboard, making a recording, or asking a question.
After completing the task in the Do stage, the student can tap the Next button at the bottom of the screen to move to the Present stage. This is where the student presents what they have been working on during the session. The video from this stage is recorded.
During the Present stage, no additional tools are available. If the student is not ready to move forward, they can return to the Do stage by tapping the back arrow at the bottom of the screen. In this case, the recorded video will not be saved, and the student can repeat both the Do and Present stages.
Once the student completes the first step—listening to the Direction, completing the task in the Do stage, and presenting in the Present stage—they will be guided to the next direction. This process repeats until the final direction is completed.
At the end of the activity, the student will see a finishing screen with playback and receive feedback on their work.
Once the activity is finished, tap Save at the bottom right of the screen and select the participant who took part in the activity.
Project Mode
Project Mode is designed to help teachers set up structured flows for complex classroom projects. Each activity corresponds to a single project.
When you select Project Mode, M2 will prompt you to provide a lesson objective. You can either press and hold the Hold to speak button while stating your objective, or tap the button once to have the AI generate an objective based on information collected during the M2 Teacher session.
The AI will then generate the activity. If you are not satisfied with it, you can regenerate the activity in two ways: press and hold the Hold to speak button to provide your own objective, or tap the button once to have the AI automatically generate a new one.
If you’re satisfied with the generated activity, tap Launch to begin. In Project Mode, the activity will include multiple directions, as it is designed specifically for complex projects. A short summary of the activity, along with the first direction, will appear before the student starts.
When the direction playback ends, the student will move to the Do stage, where they can complete the task described in the directions. In this stage, they can use the following tools: draw on a whiteboard, make a recording, or ask a question.
The next Direction will be given, followed by the Do stage for the student to complete. This process continues until all directions have been performed.
After completing the final Do stage, the student can tap the Next button at the bottom of the screen to proceed to the Present stage. In this stage, the student presents what they have worked on during the session. The presentation is recorded on video, and no tools are available at this step.
Keep in mind: In Project Mode, there are multiple directions but only one Present stage at the end, where the student gives their final project presentation. The Back button is available only in the Present stage and returns the student to the last Do stage if they forgot to complete something. Students cannot return to earlier Do stages to make changes.
After all tasks are completed, the student will see a finishing screen with playback and receive feedback on their activity.
Once the activity is finished, tap Save in the bottom-right corner of the screen and select the participant who took part in the activity.
