With Swivl you can now stream real-time video with a colleague or coach, or even broadcast to the world. Use the C-Series robot* with your favorite 3rd party video streaming app like Zoom.
Let’s get started with live streaming video using Swivl. The two basic steps below must be completed before you can begin a live stream session:
- Update the Swivl C-Series robot, Swivl app, and markers to the latest firmware
- Place the Distance Audio icon on your Capture screen for easy access by enabling "Distance Audio" from the "Capture Screen Buttons" section in the Settings Menu.
Now that the Distance Audio icon is placed on your capture screen, you just need to tap it every time you wish to start streaming with your favorite third-party streaming app. We include Zoom and Adobe Connect as choices when you tap the icon as they are the most reliable apps we've tested. Zoom works best.
*Gen2 robot is not supported.
Update Swivl to the following firmware versions or newer:
Swivl App: iOS version 6.6.0 OR Android version 4.5 (850)
Swivl C Series Base Firmware : 10.03.01
Swivl Marker Firmware : 7.53
Next, we need to enable Distance Audio mode on your Swivl. Once the robot is connected and everything is updated, the distance audio icon will be displayed on Capture screen allowing to immediately start streaming via Zoom.
Important note: the Swivl app must be opened first and stay running in the background.
When Swivl is in Distance Audio mode, the audio from all the markers are merged together and synced with the video (if you are streaming video). This means that the remote person(s) on the other end can hear the audio from all the markers at the same time.
Listening to Audio:
The person using Swivl can hear the remote person’s voice in two ways.
1. By connecting a headset to the primary marker for one on one conversations (through the right earbud only)
2. By connecting a USB speaker to the Swivl base for group conversations.
Tracking of the Swivl base can be paused by pressing the center button on the primary marker even while using Zoom.
Swivl Live is a feature that enables you to minimize the Swivl app, open a 3rd party app, and continue to use Swivl tracking and Marker audio, but it does not record video through the Swivl App.
If you would like to record while streaming you need to start Zoom session from a laptop because only web version allows recording a Zoom session. Swivl app will stream your video no matter whether you start or join Zoom session.
After recording you Live stream session via Zoom, you can upload your recorded video file (mp4) to Swivl Cloud by downloading the video from Zoom.us to your desktop and then uploading via your cloud.swivl.com account.
Switching back to Classroom Audio mode for Zoom will be done automatically so the next time you press the record button after connecting your Swivl robot to your mobile device will automatically put Swivl back in traditional recording mode.
To switch back to Classroom Audio mode (standard recording mode) when using Zoom you will need to re-enable Classroom Audio mode manually:
– Open the Swivl App
– Connect to Swivl
– Go the Settings menu
– Tap on Advanced menu
– Tap on Audio Configuration
– Select Classroom Audio
Here is a brief list of tested Android devices with Distance Audio mode enabled:

*Compatible with Adobe Connect, Youtube Live, Facebook Live, but NOT with Skype and Google Hangouts
